Back in April, Sam Mendes set the fanboy world on fire when it was reported that the latest James Bond film – Skyfall would not feature the secret agent’s trademark drink, the martini, and would instead opt for a corporately-endorsed beer: Heineken. The change came as a result of a deal between the franchise and the beer, and included both Mendes and the latest Bond himself, Daniel Craig, contributing to a new ad in addition to its presence within the film. The reported alteration to something so signature to the character’s repertoire had more than its fair share of critics, including former-Bond George Lazenby, who decried it to TMZ as a move to “go where the money is.” However, it may have been a bit premature to write off 007’s shaken-not-stirred trademark so quickly: as it turns out, both will appear in the film. To quell fans’ concerns about losing a pivotal hallmark of the character, Mendes spoke briefly but pointedly about the “change” in a recent sit-down with GQ, remaining adamant that the martini would absolutely not be going anywhere. “There is a moment where he drinks Heineken,” says Mendes, “or rather a beer. But there is a story reason for that. And he does drink other things…” A betting man would probably put his money on the legacy, rather than the money. Skyfall hits theaters November 9, martinis-and-all. ~Devin Garabedian
