Coke-Zero develops Skyfall tie-in
Jumping on the Skyfall bandwagon is Coca-Cola and their zero calorie, zero sugar drink, Coke-Zero. To attract the eyes of 007 fanatics and anyone who just wants something fresh and different, the campaign will feature a new limited-edition line of cans and bottles with a gun barrel design, holding a Daniel Craig-esque silhouette of James Bond as its target. The already-black design of the Coke-Zero products make the new designs somewhat stealth, adding to the James Bond theme and making Coke-Zero the perfect Coca-Cola product to use.
Just as with the Heineken tie-in, fans have voiced their fear that Bond’s trademark martini will be overlooked in favor of brand marketing possibilities, but rest assured, the trademark martini will make its appearance and will be served the way nature intended — shaken, not stirred. This is not to say that the film will be void of Coke products altogether, but hopefully as Gizmodo‘s Gary Cutlack writes, “This doesn’t mean there will be a clumsy interlude in the movie, in which Bond stops hitting a villain in the face, flips a pound coin into a vending machine (camera rotates around coin in mid-air in bullet time before it flies into the slot) and enjoys a refreshing and invigorating cola.”
The new campaign boasts the slogan, “Unlock the 007 in You,” as opposed to the very clever “Coke Double-Zero-Seven type thing” as suggested on Indiewire‘s The Playlist. Look for Coca-Cola Skyfall products at your local store in preparation for the film’s release this fall. ~Morgan Bates
