For nearly two years Benedict Cumberbatch has been enjoying his run as the protagonist in the highly praised BBC crime drama Sherlock. The Daily Express reported Monday that Cumberbatch is allegedly considered a shoo-in for the role as the villain who will square off with Daniel Craig in Bond 24, set to release in 2014. Since its first episode aired in 2010, Sherlock has delivered five more fraught episodes to date. Each with an average running time of 90 minutes — it’s fair to say that Cumberbatch’s sharp portrayal of a young Holmes has been a great testament to the actor’s prowess. Already locked into Star Trek Into Darkness, set to release in 2013, and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, one of this year’s highly anticipated titles, Cumberbatch’s rising star would be a fitting addition to the already acclaimed likes of Bond villainy. The Daily Express — a UK tabloid — credits its information from an undisclosed insider who says, “Benedict is considered perfect Bond Villain material” and furthermore, that “work on the next film will begin next year and the plan is for Benedict to be on board.” ~Brandon Bastaldo
