Sean Connery almost didn’t make the cut
As the release of Skyfall quickly approaches, stories and Bondesque quips about this long-running film franchise are popping up all over the web. It’s quite remarkable to hear and see so much new information being circulated about this series, which celebrated its 50th anniversary with Global James Bond Day last Friday, October 5. But in The Daily Record‘s exclusive interview with Skyfall producer Barbara Broccoli, she reveals that one of Bond’s most commended actors almost never got picked. Broccoli– the 52-year-old daughter of famous Bond producer Albert “Cubby” Broccoli—grew up with her siblings on Bond sets and says that Dr. No lead Sean Connery nearly missed out on the role because he looked like a “Scottish bricklayer.” Connery’s sultry performances as the M16 agent in the first seven films of the series have often been heralded as the best and even Connery‘s successor, seasoned actor Sir Roger Moore, calls Connery “the best bond” in a BBC interview. Still, Broccoli insists that her “father and his partner Harry Saltzman fought really hard to get Sean…who was seen by many as this Scottish bricklayer.” Brocolli goes on to explain that fortunately for Connery, “[her] father and Harry saw the potential.” ~Brandon Bastaldo
