Harrods sells out of James Bond perfume
You may not be able to become James Bond, but you can most definitely smell like him! A worldwide exclusive of the scent, 007: The New Fragrance For Men, was released at Harrods on August 15th, and all 500 bottles have already been sold. With prices starting at £32 a bottle, one was being snapped up every four minutes, almost guaranteeing success when the product launches nationwide on September 19. The success of the perfume is also a good sign for the film overall and with Skyfall already appearing at such a high-profile event as the Olympic opening ceremony, let alone having Daniel Craig as James Bond acting as the Queen’s escort, Skyfall, just as the latest Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises, could prove to be the most lucrative film of its franchise. This is all in addition to the film’s multiple branding tie-ins, which should also help the flick to gross an outstanding amount of money both in Bond’s native UK and worldwide.
The fragrance itself has hints of vetiver, lavender and apple. The ‘woody’ tones supposedly represent Bond’s manly, suave side while his passionate side balances things out with the more flowery and fruity aspects of the scent. Current James Bond, Daniel Craig, does not appear in the product ads – instead a mysterious man with a chiseled jaw and shadowed face promotes the product, seemingly implying that James Bond could be anyone, even you! ~Morgan Bates
