Bond title designer returns for Skyfall
If there’s one consistent aesthetic that everybody knows from the James Bond movies, it’s those unforgettable title sequences that open each film. Even today, in a time where title sequences are considered largely passé, the Bond franchise has held the banner high for keeping them as an integral part of the series. And the man who has been most responsible for those sequences in the contemporary installments? Daniel Kleinman, a prominent, British music video and commercial director.
Kleinman has been on board the Bond franchise as title designer since 1995, when he was responsible for directing the opening sequence for Martin Campbell‘s franchise reboot Goldeneye, which starred Pierce Brosnan. He remained the official designer of the title sequences throughout the Brosnan era, and when Campbell returned for the Daniel Craig reboot, Casino Royale, Kleinman came with him. Unfortunately, Craig’s follow-up Bond film – Marc Forster‘s Quantum of Solace – ditched Kleinman in favor of another production company, MK12. Now, Sam Mendes is bringing Kleinman back into the fold for Skyfall, reports MI6, and that production on the sequence is already well under way. This follows Mendes’ earlier comments that he wanted to bring Bond back to his roots – and bringing back a seasoned veteran in one of the franchise’s pivotal aspects is a great first step. This will be Kleinman’s sixth time designing the title sequence for a Bond film. ~Devin Garabedian
